Placeholder website What are the differences in Gold Karats?

Often considered to be the most traditional choice for men’s wedding bands, gold rings offer a timelessly elegant and luxurious look. Gold has been treasured for thousands of years starting with the Ancient Egyptians due to its incomparable color and superior malleability.

Today men’s gold rings can be found in a number of colors, karat grades, styles and designs. A higher karat grade indicates the presence of more pure gold, and usually results in a higher price tag. Thus, men’s gold rings in 10K gold tend to be the most affordable, 18K gold rings are amongst the most luxurious, and highly popular 14K gold rings offer a balance of price and quality.

Facts About Gold

Gold is the only naturally occurring yellow metal in existence.

Because it is naturally soft, gold must be alloyed with another metal to increase its durability.

Men’s gold rings are measured in karat purity and are most frequently seen in 10K gold, 14K gold and 18K gold varieties.

The most popular colors for men’s gold rings are yellow gold, white gold and rose gold.

Men’s gold rings can be hypoallergenic depending on the alloy used.

The alloying material for men’s gold rings depends on the desired karat grade, color and the preference of the manufacturer.

Men’s gold rings are easily resized and removed in case of an emergency.

Why are the differences between karats?

Pure gold is 24 Karats – Meaning it is 100% pure gold. 18K gold has a 75% purity level, 14K has a 58.3% purity level, and 10K has a 41.7% purity level. They are then mixed with various alloys, some to include nickel. You would think 10K would be the less desirable, however that is not always correct as 10K is not as “soft” as higher karats, therefore making it more durable.

Why does gold turn your finger black?

Elements such as Sulphur and chlorine will react with the alloys in the gold jewelry, causing it to corrode and turn black, therefore blackening the skin underneath. Although gold plated rings can cause the same issue, but this is usually because you are allergic to the nickel used in gold plating. I would like to add our gold rings are pure and not plated.

Which is better White or Yellow Gold?

Both choices are a solid decision for a wedding band, however white gold is a good choice if you are prone to allergic reactions (such as green finger) to the alloys used in yellow golds. White gold is rhodium plated which eliminates the potential for a skin reaction with alloy metals.
